Documentary photography - Romanian families emigrated to Spain

During my Erasmus exchange in 2012, I have met many Romanian families which have emigrated to Spain in search of a better life. In this project, I have documented the way these families have adapted to the western life, but still have a longing for their home land. A sense of nostalgia can be read in their attitude towards the camera.

Psychological portrait

In this ongoing project I am planning to investigate the way images communicate an idea through their juxtaposition. The starting point was that of the wrong messages received during childhood which contribute to an unhealthy development of our character. These messages are called injunctions. Goulding and Goulding, (1997: 8-9) define injunctions as 'messages from the child ego state of parents, given out of the parent's own pains: unhappiness, anxiety, disappointment, anger, frustration, secret desires.' Some common injuctions are: Don't. Don't be. Don't be close. Don't be important. Don't be you. The left image represents the psychological portrait of the subject, while the image on the right symbolizes the effect of the unhealthy messages received unconsciously during childhood. *Goulding, M. and Goulding R (1997) Changing Lives Through Redecision Therapy, New York: Grove Press

Conceptual photography - Regrets

This is an ongoing project that explores the relationship between image and text. The subjects represented in the following images were asked what was the thing they most regret not doing because of fear. This specific question was raised out of personal introspection and interrogation. Through this project I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the words regret, fear, personal growth, action and passivity . The project consists of a series of triptychs. Each triptych contains the portrait of the respondent, the answer to the question and a metaphorical image that is my own interpretation of the answer. The artistic references that I have used for this project are: Sophie Calle, Martha Rosler and Lorna Simpson.
