The aesthetics of memory in photographic installation

This piece of work is part of my Bachelor degree in 2012. It explores the theme of memory, more precisely the way memories are constructed and transformed in time by the act of retelling.

The installation consists of 12 sheets of glass mounted on a special support. Each sheet of glass is printed with photographs of places where I've spent my childhood.

The layering of transparent images create a surreal foggy atmosphere when the viewers are looking through the aligned sheets. But when moving around to the sides, the construction of the image is visible, and the layers represent the way a memory is constructed and transformed by our brain.
